In 2020, I was invited as a web and UI/UX designer to a very interesting project for RUK – a network of research arts and culture centers in Slovenia.
What is RUK?
RUK is a network of research centers at the intersection of art, science and technology. In this interdisciplinary triangle, they are developing innovative products and services for the soft and humane technology of the future. The investment is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
The network of RUK centers consists modularly of three locally-regionally-nationally-internationally located platforms: DDT, PiNA, and KIBLA, which capillary connect operators from their environments, platforms, and networks.
You can check out their reel below:
Their mission was to create a platform, where all three centers could publish their news, events, research, educational events, open calls to artists, etc.
My work as a web designer
After lots of info gathering, we created wireframes that would include all client’s wishes, since there were 3 different centers that publish on this platform. And they are in different cities across Slovenia, so the addressed users of the platform had to be able to search efficiently through the platform by their prefered location.
For that, we created a hero section on the top for exposing the main events. Below the hero section is a description of all three centers, which each had a dedicated colour for representing the center.
Further, we wanted visitors to see a timeline of events at all time, no matter on what subpage they were. Therefore I designed a sticky right-part of the screen with a timelined event calendar, each coloured by the location where they were happening.
