I had the pleasure of conceptualizing and executing a sculptor website design for Andrej G. Gaberi, a distinguished Slovenian sculptor whose masterpieces embellish not only the streets of my hometown, but also many other prominent locations across Europe, including Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Lithuania, and Poland, in front of universities, museums, and libraries.
The process of creating a sculptor website design
It all started with meetings with Gaberi, where we discussed his artistic vision for the website. Polona Pivec, managing editor from slovenian national TV (RTV Slovenia) with degrees in Slovenian language and Comparative literature, added depth to the website’s content, giving a rich description of Gaberi’s work.
One of the big challenges was gathering images. Gaberi’s sculptures are all over Europe, and he’s been in many exhibitions. With the help of Gaberi’s friend, we collected photos of his sculptures, events like the Harfistično omizje, and exhibitions. Each photo was carefully edited, making sure they looked great and had descriptions that made them easy to find online.
When it came to putting everything together, working closely with the developer was key. We used YOOtheme to build the website, turning our designs into a site that looks great and works smoothly throughout all browsers and devices.
How I chose and defined design elements
Gaberi has a very distinctive style, combining soft and smooth shapes with sharp edges in fluent and vibrant shapes. He uses gold colour as an emphasis on white and black. When choosing fonts and colours, I used his sculptures as a guide for creating an elegant website, where large photos demonstrate his work across the full-width screen of the viewer.
Gaberi’s miniatures: small treasures with big meaning
In addition to showcasing Gaberi’s larger sculptures, we recognized the significance of his miniature pieces as accessible and meaningful gifts for special occasions. To highlight this aspect of Gaberi’s artistry, we designed a dedicated page specifically showcasing his miniature works.
This page serves as a gateway for visitors to explore the intricate details and charm of Gaberi’s work. Each piece is accompanied by a detailed description, providing insight into its inspiration and craftsmanship. Moreover, strategically placed CTA buttons encourage visitors to take action, whether it’s to learn more about a specific miniature and its meaning or to make a purchase.
Our goal with this page is to raise awareness about the availability of Gaberi’s miniature work as unique and affordable gifts. By providing easy access to information and opportunities for acquisition, we aim to spread the joy of owning a piece of Gaberi’s art and enriching one’s home or gifting it to someone special.
