Playdome’s Social city game for Facebook is currently one of the most popular Facebook games on the web not only because of the addictive gameplay but also because of great design elements, illustrations and user interface design that makes this game look fantastic.
During my last few weeks of playing Social city I realized that having my Facebook friends for my neighbours and being able to see their ‘city’ and how they’ve decorated it was one of the main reasons for really loving this game. Since the screenshot maker still doesn’t work with this game, the users are unable to save pictures of their own city and show them to friends on Facebook. So I decided to make some screenshots myself and give you some tips to make your city look even more beautiful.
So here are the 10 tips I promised to give:
1. Use historic statues as decorations for places where trees don’t look good.

2. Find special place for your friends’ gifts; they could be dissappointed if you sold all their gifts

3. Align trees, lakes and monuments: make special private spaces for residents and put the houses, bungalows and other apartment buildings away from ‘downtown’.

4. Put restaurants, fast food and entertainment centers close to each other; people that come from bowling and movie centers are probably hungry

5. Make special spots for monuments and fountains, put parking lots somewhere where they make sence and don’t forget to align them!

6. Design with style – put roses next to buildings that match their colour. Make roads paralel, but with little dynamics and style!

7. Play with roads – two lines of roads next to each other make cool circles on the floor. Don’t just trash apartments everywhere; think of the people that live inside – would they want to live there?

8. Trees are great for making frontiers between the center of the city and a park for relaxation.

9. Use different colours of flowers as decorations; the apartment residents and hotel guests would love a view like this!

10. Make your city look nice even in zoom out. Be creative!

At the end you will see that whatever you do with the object, the city just looks beautiful with all those 3D illustrations with shadows, cute sounds and animation.
But for all you addicted social gamers and designers out there – feel free to use this post just to comment on Social city’s user interface and gameplay or just check out the game if you still haven’t played it yet.
